Indian Border Security Force withdraws a group containing women and children from the Naogaon zero line under cover of darkness following strict resistance from Border Guard Bangladesh.
Naogaon | June 7, 2026
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has successfully thwarted an attempt by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to forcibly push 17 individuals, including women and children, into Bangladeshi territory through the Sapahar frontier in Naogaon.
The tense standoff, which lasted for nearly 19 hours at the Hapania border area, concluded early Saturday morning when BSF personnel abruptly turned off the border floodlights and withdrew the group from the zero line back into Indian territory. Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ariful Islam, Commanding Officer of Naogaon BGB Battalion-16, confirmed the operational details to the press.
According to border line logs, the incident commenced at approximately 7:30 AM on Friday, June 5, when BSF personnel escorted the group of 17 civilians to the zero line near main boundary pillar 238/MP under Sapahar Upazila. BSF units attempted to compel the group across the international boundary. Alerted to the unauthorized gathering, BGB patrols immediately assumed strategic, high-alert defensive positions along the frontier line, effectively blocking entry and triggering a protracted standoff.
Local border communities commended the BGB’s steadfast posture. Eyewitnesses from the adjacent Kolmudanga village reported that the 17 individuals remained stranded at the zero line under heavy surveillance throughout the day and late into the night. Witnesses observed that around 1:00 AM on Saturday, BSF personnel turned off the operational border lights and forcefully compelled the crying individuals back into mainland India. Following the withdrawal, the BGB has significantly reinforced its mobile patrols and night surveillance across the Sapahar frontier to mitigate further unilateral cross-border movements.

💬 Statements from Border Authorities and Eyewitnesses
At around 1:00 AM on Saturday, the BSF personnel switched off the border lights. Having failed in their attempt to push the individuals through our lines, it is understood that they pulled the 17 individuals back into Indian territory. BGB has intensified its patrolling in the area.

The BGB members guarded and blocked those 17 people all day. Even around 11:00 PM while I was loading grain onto my tractor nearby, the BGB layout was completely holding the line. Eventually, the BSF personnel pulled them back into India. The people did not want to go with the BSF and were crying loudly.
